Hi my name is Eleanor James and I am PRA for Girlguiding Herefordshire. My role is vary varied and seems to cover a wide range of topics.
a) Publicity
I try to contact local press and radio when we would like to have some publicity for our activities. This is not entirely straight forward as we avoid advance publicity for events involving girls to discourage any unwanted visitors.
We also have to be very careful that we have full parental/guardian permission to use photos of the girls. NEVER publish full names even when the press try to persuade you that it must be. Make sure that permission is given for all uses of photos – press, publications, video and web pages. Parents/guardians may give permission for some but not all uses.
Please always ensure that you are fully aware of the situation for each child in your care and that you respect any limitations and make any other users of photos etc aware of any limits.
The local press tend to use free lance and part time photographers and it is often a problem for them to cover weekend and evening events but they are usually willing to use your reports and photos – provided they are good enough for printing. They prefer landscape photos and reports should be sent as press releases. (I can provide templates for most events which you can complete with local details)
